Prague Airport has named the top five airlines of the previous year across five different categories. Ryanair successfully held onto its title as the Fastest Growing Airline, while Finnair was honored as the Best Performing Airline in terms of passenger traffic for the third consecutive year. Wizz Air received the distinction of Top Sustainable Airline, and China Airlines won the award for the Best Airline Marketing Campaign in collaboration with Prague Airport. Additionally, Qatar Airways saw the most growth in air cargo transport. Representatives from each airline accepted their awards during a glamorous evening held in the Fanta building in Prague.
“At our airport, we connect different continents, cities, and people, creating a tapestry of stories. However, we don’t accomplish this alone. Our strong partnerships with airlines play a crucial role in making this possible. Last year, we welcomed nearly 16.4 million passengers, marking the third highest volume in our history, and we provided connections to 181 destinations around the globe. We deeply value the airlines that operate from our airport, and we were thrilled to honor those that made significant contributions to our shared success last year, whether through operational excellence, innovative marketing efforts, or commitment to our environmental goals,” stated Jiří Pos, the Chairman of the Prague Airport Board of Directors.
Ryanair once again claimed the title of Fastest Growing Airline at Václav Havel Airport Prague, marking the second time in a row it has received this recognition. In 2024, the airline saw its highest year-on-year growth in the total number of passengers transported.
Prague Airport also presented the Best Performing Airline award based on traffic from the previous year. This category focuses on airlines that achieved top marks in various operational measures, such as timeliness, adherence to operational guidelines, and the efficiency of baggage handling. Only airlines that conducted at least a hundred aircraft movements from July to December last year were evaluated, which translates to about two flights weekly during this time frame. Finnair triumphed in this category for the third straight year.
The airport also recognized airlines for their sustainability efforts, measuring their performance in reducing noise and emissions, as well as their commitments to environmental stewardship. Wizz Air emerged as the winner according to expert evaluations across all criteria in this category.
Among the marketing campaigns executed by Prague Airport in collaboration with airlines last year, the promotion by China Airlines for a direct flight connecting Prague and Taipei was deemed the best. An independent jury, composed of experts in marketing and tourism, selected the winner based on the creative quality of visuals, originality of the message, and how effectively the campaign promoted both the Prague Airport brand and the city as a travel destination.
This year marked the second time that Prague Airport celebrated the fastest growing airline in the cargo sector. Last year’s achievements led to Qatar Airways taking home this honor.
Looking ahead, forecasts suggest that Prague Airport will handle around 18.4 million passengers this year, which would represent the best operational result in its history. It is anticipated that travelers will have the opportunity to fly from Václav Havel Airport Prague to over 190 destinations, with roughly 80 airlines operating individual routes.
